15 Football is officially recognised as the national sport in the Solomon Islands. With numerous competitions running year-round, the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has a busy time ensuring the game continues to grow and develop. Other associated football related sports like futsal and beach soccer are also quite popular in Solomon Islands. Their national futsal team was the Oceania Futsal Championship winners in 2008 which then qualified them for the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup held in Brazil. Solomon Islands will be participating in 17 games of the 28 sports that have been set for the pacific games in Papua New Guinea, this year.
